A KDT Research and Innovation Action (RIA) mainly consists of activities aimed at acquiring new knowledge and/or exploring the feasibility of a new or improved technology, product, process, service, method, tool or solution. For this purpose, applied research, technology development and/or method/tool ​​and integration, testing and validation can be performed on a small-scale prototype in a laboratory or simulated environment. An RIA proposal is characterized by:

• Implementation by a consortium that can consist of SMEs, large companies, universities, institutes, public organizations.
• Developing innovative technologies and/or using them in an innovative way.
• Targeted demonstration of the innovative approach in a relevant product, service or opportunity, clearly addressing the applications that are relevant to societal challenges.
• Demonstrate value and potential in a realistic lab environment that reproduces the intended application.
• Having a development plan containing the valorisation for the KDT ecosystem and the contribution to the KDT goals and objectives.
